King's Point Pottery Capelin Dish
Capelin dish, glazed with local clay - by King's Point Pottery.
Capelin (a member of the smelt family) from scenic Nicky's Nose Cove beach in Newfoundland. Over a 10 year period we worked on a cast and then carved a mold from actual Nicky's Nose Cove Capelin. These items are glazed in local King's Point clays from Paddy's Brook. Capelin rolling, spawning on gravel beaches is a draw for crowds of people to the annual summer harvest. The beautiful silver and dark blue fish has been used for human consumption, pet food, bait and garden fertilizer. As it is the prime food source for cod and other higher marine life, Capelin are an essential art of the food chain for the planet.
These pieces are designed as a multipurpose item which can be used as a candy dish, jewellery holder, spoon rest...and more!
These dishes measure approximately 10" long x 4.5" wide. Due to the hand made nature of this item, no two are identical and the item you receive may vary slightly from what is pictured.
