The Craft & Art Gallery at Kings Point Pottery has been awarded the # 1 craft shop in Atlantic Canada and the provinces top shopping destination (2013-2023). Over the past thirty years Linda Yates and her team have assembled 365 craft/artists, creating an "astonishing" shopping experience. Just 12 km off the highway (TCH).
Linda G. Yates
Born and raised in the small outport community of King′s Point, Linda has deep roots to draw on for support and inspiration. With the help of her Father Calvin W. Yates a.k.a. Pop, they turned his 1960′s gas station into one of NL best known craft & art galleries. Linda started her studies at West Viking College with Ray Mackie in Stephenville, NL, Canada and continued her fine arts degree at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, She apprenticed in both Nova Scotia with Ed and Betsy Goodstein of Grand Pre Pottery and in Scotland with George Young of Church Square Ceramics Linda's Resume |
David L. Hayashida
Born and raised in the Kitchener-Waterloo, KW area, David spent much of his summers in the Algonquin Park area of Northern Ontario. David credits his Rigby-Cache-Algonquin experience with preparing him to be able to fully appreciate the raw and unspoiled beauty that NL has to offer. David studied clay in High School at Eastwood Collegiate Institute under Jim Heard, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, studied Geography under Dr. Russell Muncaster from Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and Commercial Interior Design under Architect, Marek Pain from Humber College, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. David and Linda are deeply grateful to their parents, family and friends for all the warm and generous support they have received! David's Resume |
Wallie Hayashida - Yates
Wallie is our (dark violet) super friendly greeter cat. He has been with the company for 16 years and while he hasn't created any pottery, he has certainly made lots of friends. Wallie has a degree in Prowling from the University of Alpurrta with a focus on Mousing and a minor is Cuddles. |

Linda Yates & David Hayashida
King′s Point Pottery
Between the Eagles soaring in the sky overhead King′s Point and the Whales in the deep water of Green Bay -that′s where you′ll find one of Newfoundland′s best known craft & art galleries.
We are Linda Yates and David Hayashida, partners in work and life, a creative team collaborating on every aspect of making pottery in a rural setting. Our pots reflect the passion we share for the environment we have chosen to live in. Pottery is our way of life and our pots get their life from the extraordinary world of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Since 1992 we have been creating an award winning line of blue and white functional pottery with our signature "Whales and Waves" designs. As clay artists producing ceramics intended for the home and table we enjoy the creative interplay between form and function.
Since 2003, we have expanded our horizons and have begun creating one-of-a- kind pieces that are fired in a specialized Salt/Soda kiln- the first of its kind in our province. The kiln uses a firing process that creates unique colors, textures and visual effects with each use. During the firing, we spray salt water from our local bay and soda ash into the kiln at 2300 degrees F and the dazzling results vary according to the orchestrated interaction between the salt/soda mixture, the flame path inside the kiln and the clay body. We are also exploring the use of rocks and minerals to create unique surfaces.
Inspiration comes from our local environment and historical research. Our 2006 solo show "Saucy Boats and Knotty Baskets" at the Craft Council Gallery in St. John′s gave us the opportunity to explore new forms, some of which were based on historical reference and some on the use of local materials combined with mixed media i.e using roots for handles.
